VFX Supervisor
Hailing from a rural town in Kansas, Tim Kafka came to LA to study at the USC Thornton School of Music. After working in commercial music, he transitioned into post production at Filmcore Editorial before eventually landing at MPC. Over his years at there, Tim worked his way up from scanning film to eventually leading lighting and writing tools for MPCs highest profile projects (Xbox Forza “Leave Your Limits", Geico “Kraken”. After briefly stepping away from MPC to fulfill his lifelong dream of working on Star Trek, Tim returned as a CG Supervisor. He built a reputation for photo-real CG Automotive work with Toyota, Honda, Acura, GMC and many others, including his first VES Nomination for BMW “Legends.” He also worked frequently with directors such as Patrick Daughters, Dante Ariola, Rupert Sanders, Adam Berg, and Ian Pons Jewell.
After becoming MPC’s Head of 3D, Tim built a supportive and creative team that not only generated awards (VES Nominee Xbox “Us Dreamers”, VES Winner Arm&Hammer), but helped launch the careers of many artists. After joining forces with the Mill, Tim earned another VES Nomination for a project for Sphere Las Vegas: The Marvels “Goose.” Throughout his VFX career, Tim has worked very closely with developers and technology to improve the pipeline across departments. That involvement led to Tim stepping into the role of Head of Creative Operations to be more involved in the global decision making and planning around technology at the Mill and Technicolor. Now with ARC Creative, Tim is excited to be supervising amazing creative projects and building a pipeline ready for the future of VFX.
